Look for these curb markers on storm drains in the near future!

The City operates the street sweeper shown above year round except for times when the temperature
is less than 36°. Each year this results in an estimated
62 tons of sand, grit and debris that do not enter
local streams.

Illicit Discharge
Discharges Into Storm Drains, Streets, Culverts, Rivers, Creeks, etc.
Wastewater and sewage from inside your home is treated and cleaned by waste water treatment plants or septic fields. Storm drains in the street outside your home flow directly to the streams, rivers, lakes and the ocean without treatment.
No one is allowed to dump waste of any kind onto street surfaces, drainage pipes and ditches, or into storm drains - they are only for rainwater.
If you see someone without a permit dump anything onto street surfaces, into storm drains, or into any other device built to contain rainfall or runoff, please report it by calling 828-697-3065. If you call outside of business hours, 8-5 M-F, please provide as much information about the incident when the voice mail feature activates. If you see evidence of dumping, but did not see the act, please report the location.
